Perfume heaven in Slovenia
Today I talk about my visit to Ikona. A concept-store based in Ljubljana the capital of Slovenia. As some of you guys might know (I talked about it on my Youtube channel) I love visiting perfume stores in different countries, always on the hunt for new and unknown brands. So it was not a surprise that I also had to visit Ikona while being in Slovenia.
We did not only drove to the city to check out fragrances but also for some sightseeing. Ljubljana is a beautiful surprisingly small town! You don't have the feeling of being in a capital city at all. It's very quiet, relaxed, and clean. Also very dog friendly, everywhere across the streets you will find water bowls especially put there for dogs.
Finding a new perfume
I don't buy a lot of fragrances anymore. So when I'm ready to spend my money on something unique and more expensive, it has to be good. This year I saved all the money I got from my 27th birthday to invest in a new addition to my perfume wardrobe. It is almost becoming a tradition of mine to buy a fragrance when I go on a trip! This year, I did not had anything particular in mind. I was thinking of buying Le Labo's Santal 33 but since it's a very popular scent at the moment I decided to look a little bit further. (Turns out I ended up with a fragrance that smells quite similar to Santal 33, but anyways ...) More about that in another blogpost.
I found out about Ikona on the blog Your Perfume Guide. Most of the time I just type in 'niche perfumes + city' in the Google search bar and scroll a bit around. I'm happy that there are people having blogs like these!
By the end of this article I will give some tips to visit in Ljubljana and Slovenia not perfume related. The country is amazing and worth a visit. Of course we visited a lot more places but I will share my highlights. But first, let me talk about the store.
Excellent customer experience
As a perfume saleswoman myself, I am very critical when it comes to service. Good customer service is my number one rule at work so I kind of expect the same when I visit other luxury shops. (I'm usually a little bit less critical when I visit a store like Zara, Mango, you name it).
When me and Jesper arrived at Ikona, we immediatly got greeted by a nice slender looking young man with beautiful skin and big blue eyes. His voice was really friendly and he spoke English very well. A lot of Slovenian people speak English very well by the way.
First thing I noticed is that Ikona sells a lot of perfume brands I never heard of or only saw on Instagram or in a fragrance review on Youtube. The store looked very antique / classy and was very clean. Another plus was the fact that there was a sofa in the corner with a little table. (Jesper was very happy because he knew he had to sit down for at least an hour ... )
As soon as I started smelling some scents that got my attention, the sales person named Luka started telling me about the brand, and gave me information about every individual scent. He was very passionate and enthusiastic and he was not afraid to let me know what his personal favorites are. (I LOVE this, it shows a lot of personality). I knew I was talking to someone that loves fragrance as much as I do so I really felt at home. After smelling some fragrances by the house of Zero Molecule, Luka introduced me to the story of the brand Eight and Bob. I fell in love with their signature scent. So crisp and clean!
On the back wall behind the counter was a pile of strange fluorescent boxes that really got my attention. When I asked Luka what the brand was he told the whole story and asked if I wanted to smell every single scent. Like a real perfume tasting! With every scent he told me about the notes, the story behind it, and we started smelling together. Luka also sprayed the perfumes on his own skin to let me sniff the difference between mine and his skin chemistry. The brand I am talking about is Perfumes Quartana where I later on bought a scent of.
During the perfume tasting, Luka offered me and Jesper a bottle of iced water. What a great service! Another thing I noticed is that the blotters looked very beautiful. During the tasting Luka sprayed the fragrances on a random white blotter, but when I really liked a scent, he took a more 'luxurious blotter' and wrote down the name of the scent and applied the perfume again on the paper so I could take it home with me. I don't know what kind of paper they use but it's all ready a week ago and the fragrance is still on the blotter (my whole bag smells like Nasomatto Nudiflorum right now).
After I made the choice which one to buy, Luka did not stop introducing me to other brands. I smelled some perfumes by Ulrich Lang, 27 28, Jacques Fath, Andrea Maack, and the newest one by Amouage, Love Tuberose.
Overall, this experience was seriously one of the best I had so far while perfume shopping. We felt so welcome, there was no sales pressure, Luka was very passionate and also open for just a random talk, he even gave us tips to visit in the city. Including a very good Ice-cream bar where we had amazing hand-made ice cream.
Here is a list of all the fragrances I have smelled. I will put a * behind the name of the ones I really loved.

Later on, Luka told me he also runs a Youtube channel like I do. So I'm just gonna give him a shout out on my blog. He mainly talks about skincare. And he told me he was working on his own skincare brand! Take a look at his channel.
